Transformation in the Stormlight Archive is the physical manifestation of a Surgebinder's spiritual growth and adherence to their specific Ideal. It functions by bridging the gap between the Spiritual Realm (where ideals and identity reside) and the Physical Realm, using Investiture from Stormlight as fuel.

The process typically begins when a character recites a new Oath from their Order's specific code. Upon speaking the words with genuine conviction, the body undergoes immediate and often dramatic changes. These can include the growth of wings, the hardening of skin into armor, the alteration of eye color to match a Shard's hue, or even the ability to manipulate one's mass and density. The transformation is sustained by Stormlight; if the user runs out of light, they may revert to their normal state or lose the enhanced abilities associated with that form.

Only those who have sworn an Ideal can trigger these changes. Each Order has unique manifestations: Edgedancers can grow wings for flight, Skybreakers can manifest heavy armor and gravity manipulation, and Lightweavers can alter their appearance or create illusions of others. The extent of the change depends on the depth of the user's commitment to their oath; a half-hearted recitation may yield weak results or none at all.
